There’s so much to love in Southern Indiana, especially when you bring your special someone. Pack your bags and discover a cozy getaway with your Valentine or a fun-filled Galentine’s weekend.

Where to Eat

Make your special someone feel extra special with an unforgettable meal. The 1875 is the definition of fine dining with steaks cooked to perfection and a view overlooking the scenic French Lick Resort gardens and Pluto Spring gazebo. On Huntingburg’s historic 4th Street, indulge in authentic, scratch-made Italian cuisine at Mama T’s Italian Steakhouse. For a scenic view during your date, make a reservation at The Overlook. The comfort food-packed menu pairs perfectly with the restaurant’s 20 mile panoramic vista of the Ohio River.

Live Entertainment

Make it dinner and a show with tickets to any of the region’s arts destinations. The Jasper Arts Center has multiple shows with tickets available for the 2023 season; February brings singer-songwriter and iTunes Artist of the Year, Royal Wood. In Jasper, historic theater The Astra will host Georgia-based musician Jonathan Peyton this month. The Mitchell Opera House brings in talent from across the country for our region to enjoy. February’s lineup includes the singing duo Swearingen & Kelli recreating the music from Simon & Garfunkel on February 11. Later in the month, Jake Hoot, the winner of season 17 of NBC’s The Voice,  will be performing and celebrating his debut EP, Love Out Of Time.

Date Night Activities

Put your minds to the test and beat the clock at one of our region’s escape rooms. Escape French Lick has three different experiences: Where’s Harry, a frenzy to discover Harry’s secret; Al Capone, an operation to hide from the police and protect your gang; and Time Capsules, a futuristic mission to save the earth. In Jasper, Puzzles and Padlocks has two escape rooms: Pirates of Patoka, an adventure to escape the rhyming pirates of Lake Patoka, and The Case of the Missing Music, a detective operation to bring back music.   Get creative with date night!  Reserve your spot at one of French Lick Resorts’ Wine and Canvas events. Whether you’re the next Picasso or have never picked up a paint brush, enjoy a step-by-step painting tutorial while sipping on wine. Happy Hive hosts splatter paint sessions for those who prefer creating something more abstract. They have a calendar with events to choose from, or book a private session for your special someone (or someones’ for those celebrating galentine’s!). If a paint brush isn’t your weapon of choice, opt for ax throwing at Happy Hive or Chop’d! Chop’d offers ax throwing reservations for groups up to six and is housed in the same building as Fry’d, the perfect restaurant to replenish after hitting a bullseye!

Bed and Breakfasts

Keep the relaxing vibe going with a room for two at a secluded bed and breakfast. At Blue River Valley Farm, enjoy farm fresh eggs and homegrown vegetables, help feed the chickens and goats, and walk along the scenic, mile-long path. The Destination Bed & Breakfast offers four uniquely themed rooms for guests to stay in: Chambre Rouge, Creme De Le Creme, Vintage Rose, and Le Couleur Bleu. Each room is filled with charm and offers peaceful views of the countryside. When booking, tell The Destination about your special occasion for your getaway to be welcomed with wine and flowers to enhance the romance. The Winfield West B&B has four rooms, each with its own personal bath, and a made-from-scratch breakfast featuring seasonal treats such as ricotta-stuffed French toast and German apple pancakes.

Make Your Getaway Even Sweeter

What’s Valentine’s Day without chocolate! Make your trip a little sweeter by stopping by one of our local chocolate and candy shops. Pick up a box of chocolate-covered strawberries or homemade fudge from Chocolate Bliss and Kitchen Essentials. Indulge your sweet tooth at Hoover’s Candy Shop with their caramel apples, cookie dough bites, or sampler boxes. Forgot to get a gift?  Jasper Flower and Gifts has you covered from flowers, to gifts, and of course, chocolate.
