It’s the final month of 2025, and it's almost time to ring in the new year. The countdown is on, and Southern Indiana is ready to celebrate! Whether you’re toasting with a local wine or craft beer, attending festive events, or starting traditions of your own, this December is the perfect time to explore, indulge, and savor the moments that make year’s end truly special.

A Season of Joy and Giving

From the very start of December, each celebration in Southern Indiana adds to the spirit of the season. The Season of Lights at French Lick Resort sets the tone with glowing displays and nightly shows until January 6th. Jasper’s O’Tannenbaum Days fill storefronts with festive decor and the streets with carriage rides from December 4th-6th, while Bedford’s Illuminated Christmas Parade sends floats shimmering through town on December 6th. Together, these moments create a beautiful holiday season. By the time the holidays arrive, candlelit services, familiar carols, and gathering around the tree feel like the perfect finale to a month full of traditions.        season of lights

New Year, New Goals

The start of a new calendar year is the perfect time to dream, plan, and set intentions for what’s ahead. There are so many opportunities to try new things in Southern Indiana. Maybe it’s walking the Monon South Trail, making a scenic escape to the French Lick cabins, signing up for a 5K, or discovering local shops you’ve never visited before. Starting a simple new tradition early in the year can help set the tone for the rest of 2026.

Ringing in 2026

Make your New Year’s toast extra special by visiting some of the area’s favorite breweries and wineries. On the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail, sip your way through sparkling blends and rich reds. Some even have their own lineup of handcrafted spirits, too! If beer is more your style, stop by St. Benedict’s Brew Works, located on the grounds of the Monastery Immaculate Conception, where the tap list blends tradition with creativity. While you sample their brews, you can also enjoy a meal and make an evening of it.

If you’re looking for the ultimate New Year’s Eve celebration and the perfect way to ring in the new year, the Tell City Apple Drop at the Silvesternacht Celebration has become one of the state’s most unique ways to celebrate. The apple drop pays homage to William Tell, the legendary marksman who famously shot an apple off his son’s head.

As the countdown begins, all eyes turn to the illuminated apple suspended above the crowd, waiting for that final drop that marks the start of a new year. The night is also filled with live music, laughter, and family-friendly activities. Come join and create new memories for the new year.       Apple Drop
