Splash into Summer

Summer is here and so is the heat. There’s no better time to head to Southern Indiana where water is our specialty. If you’re the sporty type, there are water activities waiting for you. If you’re more into lounging on the lake, don’t worry; we’ve got something for you, too! Here's a guide to must-visit spots and events this summer.

Bombers Game at League Stadium

Historic League Stadium - Before you grab the paddle or hit the lake, enjoy the crack of the bat and step back in time at the iconic League Stadium in Dubois County. This is where summer begins with peanuts, popcorn, and a bit of history. The ballpark, built in 1894, gained its fame as the filming location for the movie A League of Their Own. Today, it’s home to the Dubois County Bombers, a collegiate summer baseball team that plays in vintage-inspired uniforms, truly making you feel like you’ve stepped into the past. Check out their schedule to help kick off your summer!

Cave Country Canoes

Cave Country Canoes - Once you're ready to get your feet wet, sunshine and water make the perfect combination for a day outdoors. At Cave Country Canoes in Crawford County, you can rent a canoe or kayak and float down the scenic Blue River. If you’re the adventurous type, opt for their full two-day trip where you’ll encounter wildlife, nature, and even some incredible cave views. If a two-day trip isn’t your thing, their half-day option offers a great chance to enjoy some fishing, swimming, and a relaxing riverside picnic. The best part: after a day of exploring, you can unwind at their campsite falling asleep surrounded by nature.

Patoka Lake

Patoka Lake - Spanning 8,800 acres across Dubois, Crawford, and Orange counties, Patoka Lake is a summer haven. This is the perfect playground for tubing behind a speedboat, jet skiing, or paddleboarding. Prefer a slower pace? For those who like a calmer atmosphere, it’s also the perfect place to simply float and soak up the sun. Adventure and relaxation go hand in hand at Patoka Lake; there’s no wrong way to enjoy it, and the water is always waiting!

Bluespring Cavern

Bluespring Caverns Park - If your dad is the outdoors type or a curious explorer, and you’re looking for a Father’s Day experience unlike any other, the Bluespring Caverns Park in Lawrence County is the perfect place to go. Drift silently through an underground river 150 feet below the earth’s surface, where you’ll discover rare blind cave fish and crawfish while learning about the natural wonders that make this journey beneath the surface possible. With the temperature being 53 degrees year-round, it’s the perfect cool escape from the summer sun.

Monroe Lake

Monroe Lake - For ultimate summer relaxation, Monroe Lake is the go-to destination! It’s Indiana’s largest land-bound body of water, and since it's located just outside Bloomington, home to Indiana University, the area tends to be quieter during the summer months. Its wide open waters and peaceful atmosphere make it the perfect place to rent a pontoon or bring your own boat, and relax for the day.

Loogootee Summerfest Concert

Loogootee Summerfest - From June 19-21, take a break from your water-filled adventures and head to Martin County for the Loogootee Summerfest. This three-day event features live music, carnival rides, festival foods, and exciting events like a 5K, a sand volleyball tournament, and more! This festival is family-friendly, full of energy and a perfect way to celebrate summer on land before diving back into the water fun.

Your Unforgettable Summer Moments

From exciting moments on the water to memorable moments on land, Southern Indiana invites you to experience a summer that is as refreshing as it is unforgettable. Whether paddling in serene rivers, exploring underground caves, or cheering at a baseball game, the memories you make will stay with you long after the season ends.
